Blood lions – bred for the bullet

Renowned for its majesty and nicknamed “the king of the jungle,” the lion (like all other big cats) possesses power, beauty and strength. This power, beauty and strength is also what apparently makes it so attractive for wildlife killers, also known as trophy hunters.

Every single day in South Africa at least two to three captive bred or tame lions are being killed in canned hunts. Hundreds more are slaughtered annually for the lion bone trade. Currently, almost 8 000 predators are being held in cages or confined areas, and none of this has anything to do with conservation.

If we don’t act now, that number could well be over 12 000 within the next few years. The Blood Lions story is a compelling call to action to have these horrific and totally insane practices stopped.
